The BackBlast:

8 1/2 PAX posted for a perfect late summer afternoon workout at the Grill.  The park was quiet at first but was hopping with a lot of kids and parents by the end of the workout with soccer practice.  Ringworm got his 2.0 settled into soccer and then was able to join us halfway through the workout.

Warm-a-rama: Mosey to “Death Valley” for Arm Circles, Abe Vigoda, Hillbillies, Grass Pickers, Reverse Lunges, BSE, Calf Stretch, Plank Jacks

The Thang

Merkin Mile: we ran a half mile along the river and back stopping approximately every quarter mile to knock out 25 Merkins for a total of 100 Merkins and just over one mile.  Myra was quick on his feet as he avoided stepping on a snake that was sunning itself in the trail.

After the last set of Merkins we moseyed to the playground where we had to muscle our way into the playground equipment between all the kids.  I can picture us as the local playground bullies but I don’t think that is the case.  More often than naught we’ll end up having some of the kids join us in pull ups or push ups.  One of the advantages of afternoon workouts in the summer is a lot more interaction with the community.  One kid was impressed with Myra and asked him if he did this workout every day.  I can just hear the boy say in his head “I want to be like him when I grow up!”  I on the other hand want to be like Woz when I grow up!

  • Pull ups with partner providing assistance as needed (AMRAP)
  • Underdogs

Mosey to the pavilion by the shovel flag

  • 8 Burpees
  • 16 Flutter Kicks (IC)
  • 24 Step Ups (IC)
  • 32 Squats (IC)
  • 12 Dips (IC)

Mary: Dealer’s Choice — Big Boy Sit ups, LBCs, Flutter Kicks, Calf Raises, American Hammers plus a few others I can’t recall.

Pocahontas had to split pronto for another engagement so we snapped a quick photo

COT: End of life and new life — we prayed for Potsie’s father-in-law who is in the last stages of life and for Myra and his M as they await the arrival of their first child in the next few weeks.  Prayers for various PAX who are heading out on vacations in the coming week.

Four PAX went to the Westy for dinner following the workout.
