The Thang: The Q started to read Freed to Lead (about time) and was inspired. I wanted to do some routines focused the difficulty of being a singleton doing life on his own compared to doing life with other men. Doing life with other men doesn’t make the task easier, but makes the task more enjoyable, so it seems easier (or dare I say Fun!). The Q has a few routines planned out that will emphasize some of the solution that F3 has for the Sad Clown Syndrome.
Mode of Transportation between spots: Catch Me if You Can. The Q provided two 5 gallon buckets. These buckets were full to the brim with Rocks. The concept for the game goes as follows: We do a Count-o-Rama and each PAX gets a number. The Q will call a number. Then a PAX will grab the buckets (one for each hand) and run or attempt to walk fast away from the group. The rest of the group will perform 3 burpees OYO. When a PAX is done with his burpees he will chase the fleeing bucket laden PAX. Once the buckets are caught everyone will keep there hands above there head until the 6 is in. Once the group is back together the Q leads a straight count of 10 overhead presses. Upon completion of the overhead presses another number is called, buckets are carried, burpees performed, rinse repeat…
We did the above from the shuttle flag to the main pavilion with the stage going to long way on the other side of the stream. Just so happens that each PAX was able to carry the buckets 2 times before we arrived at our destination.
Thang 2: Coined the Singleton can’t Survive. The premise is as follows: Start all the PAX together in a circle. The Q calls the first exercise with the number of reps and the time allotted for completion. The timer starts. The PAX all scatter, so they are alone from one another and perform the reps of the exercise and get back to the circle in the amount of time. (The reps and time are set such that most or all the PAX fail to complete the assignment). Once all back together we perform the amount of reps of the same exercise in the same time frame (hopefully with complete or nearly all PAX being successful). Idea we perform better with others opposed to on our own. We tally up how many PAX did not met the expectations (must maintain standards) that is our rep count for the penalty exercise.
The above was the plan, but the reality was different. We were short on time, so instead of scattering for isolation we just turned our backs to one another. We attempted the exercise with reps in the timer. Which we were all able to successfully complete, so no penalties were incurred. Only reward exercises instead!
Round 1: 25 Merkins OYO in 90 seconds, 25 Merkins SC in 90 seconds and 5 Mike Tysons (for a reward)!
Round 2: 25 Big Boys OYO in 60 seconds, 25 Big Boys SC in 60 seconds, and 10 Turkish Get Ups (each side) (for a reward)!
Round 3: 25 Squats OYO in 45 seconds, 25 Squats SC in 45 Seconds, and Motivators down from 7
At this point the Q had 1 more index card in the Wienke, but only 15 minutes to get these buckets back to the shuttle flag.
We did “Catch Me if You Can” back to the shuttle flag. It ended very symmetrically. We each got a rotation with the buckets, We ended at the back of the Q’s truck and with only 1 minute remaining. We did overhead pressures to run out the clock!
It was a pretty tough beatdown with 82 burpees and 250 overhead presses just from “Catch Me if You Can”. The Q learned an important lesson on this beatdown. He had a plan and tried something new, but it failed (at least it didn’t meet the originals intentions). Now I know to plan more thoroughly and prepare your words, to be prepared to better articulate the plan.
Always an honor to lead in the gloom.
