Keeping Up with Flash

The Grill is still adapting to a nomadic format while the park is still closed.  While some of the PAX opted to hunt turkeys on the opening day, three posted for a run on the Bartram Trail.

Last week, the workout was at Wichita’s house where two of his 2.0’s were introduced to F3.  This week, one of them persuaded his dad to let him come along.  Isn’t it great that F3 can accommodate so many different situations!  Flash is 5-years old and was a delight to have along to switch things up a bit.

Warm-a-rama: arm circles, trunk rolls, abe vigoda, grass pickers, best stretch ever, calf stretch, seal jacks

We ran along the Bartram Trail 1.5 miles out and back for a total of 3 miles with stops ~ every 1/4 mile for a variety of exercises.  Flash did an awesome job of keeping up and ran with us for the full 1.5 miles out.  Some of our stops included pyramid push ups, jump ups, Bulgarian ball busters (inspired by Flash who wanted to do karate moves), Dips, lunge walks, backward lunge walks, and nur.

Flash wasn’t able to run back again so his dad literally picked up the six and carried him for a good bit of the trek back.  However, Flash had enough energy to challenge us to a race so we could sprint ~ 50 yards back to the parking lot.

So the workout wasn’t as intense as it may have been but the camaraderie was great.  I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Flash better.  I realize that while my sons are grown, married, and one now has his own child, I miss those little boys I once had.  Flash reminded me of the wonder of being a child and joy in living in the moment.

Following the run, we picked up some breakfast via Dunkin Donut drive through and met back at the trail head to have coffeeteria.  We had an added bonus of seeing another family who are mutual friends and hanging out with them for a short time as well.

Another F3 workout where we modified as needed to accommodate the PAX.  We had a good time.  It was a great way to spend a beautiful morning.
