The 12 Days of Christmas at Blast Furnace

6 PAX gathered at Reeves Park on the first day of Winter (18 degrees again – this time no wind chill except for Flipper’s man-made broken wind) for a Lowes led

12 Days of Christmas – F3 style!

Quick disclaimer and then a mosey around the park to get the blood flowing, with a quick stop to pick 15 weeds, and then some windmills at the conclusion of the lap. We then headed over to the new playground and continued to warm up with a tour of the new playset via bear crawl (complete with a trip down the slide at the end). The frost on the slide made for a fast trip, so an already humorous scene of watching five other grown men go down the slide was even better and even included a tumble at the end!

The Thang:

The PAX then discovered my boys’ whiteboard (fitting right in on the playground) which listed the 12 exercises that would soon get stuck in their head as I taught them the 12 Days of Christmas F3 style. Now at the risk of killing the effect (similar to if you have to explain the punchline, the joke isn’t funny) I will point out some of the thought that was put into the selection of the exercises.

  1. A Merkin and a Burpee (A Partridge in a Pear Tree)
  2. LBCs
  3. Plank Jacks
  4. Backwards
  5. Lunge Arm Circles (Golden Rings)
  6. Monkey Humpers (Geese a laying – ok maybe that one was a stretch)
  7. Mountain Climbers
  8. Big Boy Situps
  9. Bonnie Blairs (Ladies Dancing)
  10. Jumping Squats (Lords a Leaping)
  11. Diamond Merkins
  12. American Hammers (Drummers Drumming – maybe a stretch too…)

As you would expect, it went like this.

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me a merkin and a burpee.

On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me two LBC’s and a merkin and a burpee.

On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me three plank jacks, 2 LBC’s and a merkin and a burpee, and so on and so forth.

Lots of good chatter during the course of the “song”. At the completion of the twelve days of Christmas, the PAX did another lap around the park, then circled up again back on the playground.

Since everyone is probably sick of hearing the same music over and over again, I thought it a good idea to replay the “song” again, except this time backwards to see if it sounded any different. It was way different.

Part two went like this:

On the 12th day of Christmas my true love gave to me 12 American Hammers.

On the 11th day of Christmas my true love gave to me, 11 Diamond Merkins and 12 American Hammers.

On the 10th day of Christmas my true love gave to me, 10 Jumping Squats, 11 Diamond Merkins, and 12 American Hammers, and so on and so forth.

When it was all said and done, Winklevoss had sweated so much that he had sweatsickles hanging from his hair and the PAX completed the following total exercise counts!

A third and final lap around the park to finish! Awesome work men!

Flipper shared he is leading Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University class starting in January. See him for details. Flipper also inspired us with how he is working on taking time to be a better neighbor!
