Eight PAX gathered in the pre-dawn gloom for YHC’s latest beatdown/discussion of the ‘Hateful Eight’ – the 8 ubiquitous seed oils that are stunting the health and immune systems of our country, this according to Dr. Cate Shanahan.
First, here’s the beat down:
Words of welcome, disclosures agreed to, quick introduction to the Hateful 8:
S. S. A. M. P. I. L. Warm Up: Stretching, SSH, Abe Vigodas, Merkins/Mountain Climbers, Peter Parkers, Imperial Walkers, Side lunges, Forward lunges
The Thang:
- We started with ELEVENS using the most common exercises, in cadence: 1 Merkin/Mosey 500ft/10 Merkins, 2 merkins – mosey – 9 merkins… etc. We made it to 7 merkins/mosey/4 merkins and then moved on for lack of time. (Total 154 merkin ct, not bad)
- Next, another set of ELEVENS over a 20 yard stretch of grass using LBC’s/Bear crawl/LBC’s. 4 LBC’s/bear crawl/7 LBC’s was as far as we could go as it was 6:10. Everyone was broken hearted, I could tell by the sighs of relief.
Mary – dealers choice around the circle
COR, NOR, COT and we wrapped to take on the day!
For those interest, here’s the background behind bad seed oils:
For certain they’re everywhere. But before we get all depressed, the good news is it’s simple get on the right course as there are healthier options readily available. Here’s the list of good and bad along with a decent discussion on why. My favs on the good side are olive oil, avocado oil, butter/ghee, coconut oil (coconut and avocado oils best bought at Costco). Beyond that, avoid processed foods (of course), and read your labels. 90% of foods you’ll see use the H8, though you can find healthier ones if you look (my wife danced in the door the other day with a bag of olive oil potato chips).
Deeper dive: here’s 2 articles for the history of good and bad fats: the first is on the myth surrounding the unhealthy cholesterol narrative, and then part 2 of that piece describes how this myth was created 60 years ago.
