06/18/2022 - Grill - Examinophobia

Examinophobia — fear of exams; apparently many Grill PAX suffer from this malady.  As soon as I put out on GroupMe that we’d be taking a physical fitness test the excuses came pouring in “I won’t be there”, “Won’t be there either, knee issues”, “back issues”, “craft show”, “father’s day weekend; will be away”; “father’s day weekend; kids will be home”; and then “would have been there but the power was out and alarm didn’t go off”.  Next time I’ll have to give a pop quiz.

I arrived at the Grill and had to hunt for a parking spot.  What?!  There was a half marathon going on.  In the midst of the crowd, initially 5 PAX made their way to the shovel flag including an FNG.  Later Teardrop also joined us after having to find a parking spot on the far side of the park.

The disclaimer was given.

Warm-a-rama: Arm Circles, SSH, Imperial Walkers, Grass Pickers, BSE, Calf Stretch, Mountain Climbers

The PFT was administered as follows: As many Burpees as possible in one minute, Big Boy Sit ups in one minute, ~ 300 meter run, Merkins in one minute, the Illinois Agility Run, and finally a 1.3 mile run.

Here are the results

PAX Burpees Big Boy Merkin Agility Run (sec) 300 Meter (Min:sec) 1.3 Mile Run (Min:Sec)
Beaker 18 25 43 13:93 1:10 12:00
Butterfly 8 12 15 1:27
Teardrop 19 35 80 16:10 1:14 15:27
Potsie 12 39 40 15:60 1:06 12:00
Wizard 11 14 35 14:94 1:12 15:27
Woz 14 22 40 14:38 1:03 11:47

Teardrop had a slight advantage on the rep counts since he arrived late he found out the number to beat so he could push himself more.  Yeah, he is a bit competitive.

Woz impressed us with his speed.  He is currently the ranking Grill PAX member in age at a young 65.  He blew us all out of the water.  His marathon experience showed and he is an inspiration to us.

We all survived the exam more or less.  I’ll definitely have to focus on fun and games in the upcoming weeks to engage the rest of the PAX who hate exams.

COT: prayers for Woz’s M who is having some health issues, prayers for Oreo’s ongoing knee issue.  Reminders about the upcoming Keystone Convergence.

We welcomed our FNG into the group and named him “Wizard” as a nod to his last name “Wismer” along with being a science teacher.  Welcome Wizard!  Looking forward to many fun workouts with you.
