Franklin’s Philly

Two Pax traveled to the City of Brotherly Love to show the men of F3 Philly how we do it in F3 Lehigh Valley. We met up with four others in a parking lot, Dos Equis from the first and new Mustard Seed in New Jersey, Carbomb from The Fort, and CSPAN and Lindross from F3 Philly.

Today happened to be the first day of the Philly Marathon which would see thousands of runners descend on the city to race through the city street to eventual victory, everyone gets a medal. The route was planned n a attempt to avoid the chaos of the race. Being I have never been to downtown Philly I used a new app for my Garmin Vivoactive3 named dwMap to help guide us through the city streets successfully. Thr route took us through the city passing Independence Hall, The Liberty Bell, The National Constitution Center, The US Mint, The Bolt Of Lightening, and Franklin Square.

Warm-A-Rama

The warm-a-rama took place in the urine stained parking lot at the center of the AO.

  • SSH x 20
  • Abe Vagoda
  • Grass Pickers
  • Plank
  • Merkin

Mosey – we started on a 1.3 mile mosey making stops to sit in the People’s Chair, High Knees through the tunnel of scaffolding, Side Shuffle along Independence Park, and Butt Kickers to the National Constitution Center. We descended upon the Bolt of Lightening for the meat of the Thang. During a recovery minute I discussed Franklin Square, The Bolt of Lightning, and the Ben Franklin Bridge.

The Thang

At the base of The Bolt of Lightning

  • Dips x 15
  • Irkins x 15
  • Dirkins x 15

The surrounding base has steps on two sides. On one side perform one rep of an exercise, run to the other side skipping a step on the way up and perform two reps, run back and hold a plank for the six each round.

Round 1 – Merkins

Round 2 – Squats

Round 3 – Carolina Dry Dock

On the last round we Bear Crawled up one side, across the monument and down the other side.

Dos Equis the led us to Franklin Square Park.

  • Irkins x 15
  • Step Ups x 15 on park benches
  • Dips x 15

In the playground all Pax spare one performed a swing merkin and knee in while the lone Pax traversed a monkey bar set. When done he tagged another Pax and we repeated until all Pax traversed.

When complete we performed to following for Mary:

  • In and Out Abs
  • Hill Billies
  • Imperial Walkers
  • Toy Soldiers

We the moseyed back to the concrete shovel flag.

COT

Lifting up Carbomb and his family on the upcoming life changes being made, Uptown Girl for the impending birth, Flame’s wife, Lindros and safety, and all unspoken prayers. Thanks to Carbomb for praying us out.

Five Pax went to coffeteria at “THE BEST BREAKFAST PLACE IN THE NATION”, CSPAN.  In my humble opinion the Nation’s Yeoman is correct when speaking of the Dutch Eating Place. But then again I have not enjoyed city ham with the men of @F3_Folsom.

History

A few facts about the places we worked it our this morning.

The Bolt of Lightning –  The site of the insanity Ben Franklin took upon himself with a kite and a key. This monument is Nogichi’s depiction of the discovery made by the HIM Franklin in a thunderstorm in 1752. The Sculpture was raised in 1984.

Franklin Square – William Penn planned this park as one of the original five parks in the city of Philadelphia in 1682. With the later addition of the Ben Franklin bridge and the Bolt of Lightening a beautiful view is to be had while looking to the east each morning. Wikipedia says this about the original intent of the park: “Originally, the park was a place for settlers to meditate and set a virtuous behavior to set a proper example.” Notice the word “virtuous!”
